Founded in 1914, Booz Allen Hamilton is one of the oldest and most
respected firms in the consulting industry. With 110 offices around the
globe, it’s a major force domestically and internationally. The firm
comprises two business units: the commercial sector and the government
sector. The commercial unit traditionally caters to Fortune 500
corporations, competing with strategy consulting firms such as McKinsey and
Bain, and the government sector works with public sector organizations,
governments, and infrastructure around the world. Booz Allen’s public
sector business—which employs nearly 13,000—is thriving, so much so that it
has enabled the company to expand its commercial offerings.
Booz Allen calls itself a “global strategy and consulting firm” and lists
many areas of expertise among its service offerings; primary among them:
strategy, organizational change management, operations, IT, corporate
finance, mergers and restructuring, systems engineering, and public sector
effectiveness. And it offers its commercial sector services in a broad
range of industries, from high tech to finance to consumer products,
chemicals, and health care. The U.S. government is one of the firm’s
largest clients.
